Radio Play: Harris and the Mare

Mare

This month’s presentation after worship and our potluck lunch will be listing to the radio play created from Stan Rogers song: Harris and the Mare. It is set on Good Friday shortly after World War I in a small Canadian town. A young man who chose not to fight in the war feels the impact of that decision as it brings violence to his wife. This is not an easy topic, but it brings to the table many of the questions of Good Friday and Easter.
Questions that people are facing every day in our cities, nation, and world.  The play takes up the challenging topic of when a person reaches their limit of pacifism in a world where strength and violence are used to gain what a person or group wants. We as Friends have a peace testimony in our personal and community life. Each of us know moments in our lives when we have fallen short. What comes next? How can we begin again, to forgive ourselves and be forgiven by others? What does the Devine, God, the living Christ, the Inner Light offer us in that moment of darkness?  The play ends leaving the listeners confronting these questions. Consider taking some time to reflect on what our faith calls us to.

If you can not attend, consider listing to the play on You Tube Harris & the Mare by John Gavin Douglas. It is 20 minutes long. Don't let the intro to the radio show put you off.
