Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's
Sermon blessing the President and providing Christian guidance for the work to be done
It has been the tradition the day after the inauguration to have a worship service to bless the coming work of the newly elected president with the intent to ground the coming presidential term in guidance of the Divine. Pointing to Jesus’s foundational commandments to Love God and Love Thy Neighbors, Bishop Budde specifically asked our President to “ have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land."
